James is a Northern Michigan photographer whose work explores the intersections of landscape, cityscape, architecture, and the natural world. Originally from Traverse City, Michigan, he discovered photography at age 14 when his mom gifted him a Kodak Cameo 35mm film point-and-shoot camera for a school trip to Washington, D.C. That moment sparked a lifelong passion for capturing the world through imagery, a passion he has pursued professionally since 2010.

From 2013 to 2026, James lived in Chicago, where he spent more than a decade photographing one of the country's most visually compelling cities. The city's renowned architecture, diverse neighborhoods, and ever-changing lakefront provided endless opportunities to explore urban landscapes and refine his craft. Those years helped shape his approach to composition, light, and storytelling and continue to influence the way he sees and photographs the world today.

James’s  photography has been featured in publications like Smithsonian Magazine, People Magazine and Autoweek, but his artistic focus remains on creating fine art photographs that transport the viewer. Each image aims to tell a story, to offer a sense of place, or to evoke the feeling of being carried into a different time.

Beyond photography, he finds inspiration in travel, in the weekly tradition of playing pool with friends, and in the companionship of his two pit bulls, Chauncey and Millie, who keep him busy and outdoors as much as possible. James is available for commissions and continues to build a body of work that speaks to collectors and admirers of fine art photography worldwide.
